TV Shows I watch....

House M.D. (2004-????)

House is a character that I just love, despite all his flaws! The show may be fairly formulaic and case of the week, but the characters are witty and it is often incredibly funny!

Favourite actors from House M.D.: Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Jennifer Morrison & Lisa Edelstein

Bones (2005-????)

Loosely based on the life of the forensic anthropologist and author, Kathy Reichs. Another case of the week, almost procedural, show but with funny moments and a group of characters with amazing chemistry! Probably not a show for the feint of heart as it can be pretty gory at times!

Favourite actors from Bones: Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, T.J. Thyne, Michaela Conlin & Eric Millegan

Grey's Anatomy (2005-????)

Can get pretty ridiculous at times, for example, almost every member of the main cast or someone in each of the characters' families has had to be treated by the hospital for something fairly major!
But apart from that, it has a pretty great cast, and several will they won't they relationships to keep you entertained.

Favourite actors in Grey's Anatomy: Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight & Patrick Dempsey

Doctor Who (2005-????)

Excellent revival of a British classic! Christopher Eccleston did an amazing job getting it going alongside Billie Piper as did David Tennant as the tenth doctor. We are now on our eleventh doctor, and Matt Smith alongside Karen Gillan as Amy Pond don't disappoint in this new radical reboot.

Favourite actors in Doctor Who: Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith & Karen Gillan

Big Love (2006-????)

It seems like a strange premise for a show, a Mormon family drama, with Bill Paxton as the polygamist father with three wives, but it is actually a pretty good show! The family dynamic in such a foreign (to me) situation is an interesting thing to explore, and it is often pretty funny!

Favourite actors in Big Love: Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny & Ginnifer Goodwin

Supernatural (2005-????)

I managed to watch the entire first season just before the second season started airing, and I was glad I did! Here is a paranormal show that is genuinely scary, every episode is a mini horror movie!
Of course it doesn't hurt that Jensen Ackles is older brother Dean to Jared Padalecki's Sam!

Favourite actors in Supernatural: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Jeffrey Dean Morgan & Misha Collins

Torchwood (2006-????)

Brilliant spin off of Doctor Who, and a little more adult than the original! Jack Harkness reappears after the events of his last episode of Doctor Who, and is the leader of a crack team who are part of the semi-secret organisation Torchwood. The mini-season 3, Children of Earth was pretty much the most brilliant 5 hours of television. Looking forward to season 4!

Favourite actors in Torchwood: John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman & Gareth David-Lloyd

How I Met Your Mother (2005-????)

Incredibly funny sitcom, with an entirely loveable cast! The premise (a father telling his children about how he met their mother) means that there must be an end at some point, but until then I'm enjoying the ride!

Favourite actors in How I Met Your Mother: Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan & Jason Segal

QI (2003-????)

I couldn't get into this quiz show when I first watched an early episode, but when I caught a few more recently I realised just how brilliant it is. I have now watched every episode and there aren't many quiz shows where you'd find it necessary to do that! The guests are excellent and Stephen Fry does a brilliant job presenting!

Favourite guests on QI: Stephen Fry, Alan Davies, Jo Brandt & Jimmy Carr

Dexter (2006-????)

Another series based on a book, but this one is so incredibly different from anything else around at the moment! The first season strayed a little from the book and the second season has struck out on its own, and it presents you with a major moral dilemma: this character that you grow to really like may be caught by the very police force he works for, and you don't want him to be caught, however he is a killer and surely that means he needs to be dealt with. Dexter's personal moral code certainly begins to rub off on you!

Favourite actors in Dexter: Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter & David Zayas

Burn Notice (2007-????)

Quirky and off beat show, with an excellent cast and intriguing premise. The first season ended on such a cliffhanger that I am eagerly anticipating season 2!

Favourite actors in Burn Notice: Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell & Sharon Gless

The Big Bang Theory (2007-????)

The best new sitcom out there! All the characters are hilariously funny and it has the best theme tune by Barenaked Ladies!

Favourite actors in The Big Bang Theory: Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kunal Nayyar & Kaley Cuoco

Two and a Half Men (2003-????)

Charlie Sheen is great in this sitcom. I watched it at the beginning and then didn't pick it up again until recently, it's not the sort of show where you miss much doing that though! The only noticeable difference was that the kid grew up a lot, they'll have to call it Three Men if he keeps going at that rate!

Favourite actors in Two and a Half Men: Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones & Conchata Ferrell

The Simpsons (1989-????)

Often incredibly hilarious, sometimes less so, particularly in recent years.

Favourite characters from The Simpsons: Lisa, Bart, Homer, Marge & Maggie

Fringe (2008-????)

Another mind-bending series from the creator of Lost. Lots of below-the-surface mysteries but mostly has one episode stories.

Favourite actors from Fringe: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble & Jasika Nicole

The Daily Show/The Colbert Report (1996-????)/(2005-????)

Can't really be watched apart from each other, but Jon Stewart is far superior to Stephen Colbert. Together they are a great way to keep up with current affairs from an American perspective.

Favourite people in these shows: Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver & Aasif Mandvi

True Blood (2008-????)

An excellent return to form for the vampire genre, can't wait to see how it continues.

Favourite actors from True Blood: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell & Alexander Skarsgård

The Mentalist (2008-????)

A refreshing take on the endless CSI-type genre. Patrick Jane is an incredibly likeable character with a slightly dark streak.

Favourite actors from The Mentalist: Simon Baker, Robin Tunney, Owain Yeoman & Amanda Righetti

Psych (2006-????)

Very entertaining off beat comedy drama.

Favourite actors from Psych: James Roday, Dulé Hill, Timothy Omundson & Maggie Lawson

Weeds (2005-????)

Simply enjoyable dramatic comedy.

Favourite actors from Weeds: Mary-Louise Parker, Romany Malco, Justin Kirk & Alexander Gould

30 Rock (2006-????)

Started watching this because of the exposure Tina Fey had during the 2008 US presidential election. It is a delightfully post modern show with many laugh out loud moments and eccentric characters.

Favourite actors from 30 Rock: Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer & Scott Adsit

Chuck (2007-????)

Such an intriguing concept rendered in a very mad cap way.

Favourite actors from Chuck: Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin & Joshua Gomez

Lie To Me (2009-????)

Not the typical procedural drama, very clever and interesting.

Favourite actors from Lie To Me: Tim Roth, Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines & Monica Raymund

Castle (2009-????)

Police murder mystery show with a quirky edge, often pretty funny.

Favourite actors from Castle: Nathan Fillion, Molly C. Quinn, Stana Katic, Seamus Dever & Jon Huertas

Gossip Girl (2007-????)

Guilty pleasure teen drama, strangely addictive. Only watched because of Kristen Bell voicing the mysterious Gossip Girl.

Favourite actors from Gossip Girl: Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Jessica Szohr & Ed Westwick

Stargate Universe (2009-????)

So much darker than any previous Stargate series, more in the style of Battlestar Galactica.

Favourite actors from Stargate Universe: Robert Carlyle, David Blue, Alaina Huffman & Ming-Na

Glee (2009-????)

Full of amazing numbers, and an interesting cast.

Favourite actors from Glee: Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Dianna Agron & Chris Colfer

The Vampire Diaries (2009-????)

A show that's jumped on the Twilight bandwagon, but is based on a book series that predates those books. Looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

Favourite actors from The Vampire Diaries: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Katerina Graham & Candice Accola

Being Human (2008-????)

It started as an excellent one off episode that led to a brilliant TV series, bring on season 2!

Favourite actors from Being Human: Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow, Aidan Turner & Sinead Keenan

Merlin (2008-????)

Goes from strength to strength.

Favourite actors from Merlin: Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Angel Coulby & Katie McGrath

Caprica (2009-????)

An incredibly compelling prequel to Battlestar Galactica. Touches on many issues big and small and subverts expectations.

Favourite actors from Caprica: Alessandra Torresani, Sasha Roiz, Genevieve Buechner & Polly Walker
